Yokohama Chinatown, located in the heart of Yokohama city, is the largest Chinatown in Japan and one of the most vibrant and colorful tourist destinations in the country. Established in 1859, the Chinatown is home to over 600 shops and restaurants, offering a wide variety of Chinese cuisine, traditional Chinese goods, and cultural events.

Foodies will find themselves in heaven at Yokohama Chinatown, with its countless food stalls and restaurants offering a wide variety of authentic Chinese cuisine. From traditional dim sum to popular Chinese street food such as jianbing (Chinese crepes) and roujiamo (Chinese sandwiches), visitors can indulge in a culinary adventure through China’s regional cuisines. Make sure to try the famous “shumai” dumplings, which originated in this town and have since become popular throughout Japan.

In addition to the delicious food, Yokohama Chinatown offers a wide range of cultural experiences, including traditional Chinese festivals and events such as Chinese New Year celebrations and the Autumn Moon Festival. Visitors can also enjoy the many shops selling traditional Chinese goods such as calligraphy brushes, silk fabrics, and paper lanterns.

For a more immersive cultural experience, visitors can participate in a traditional Chinese tea ceremony at one of the many tea houses or visit one of the temples, such as the Kanteibyo Temple, a beautiful temple dedicated to the Chinese god of business and prosperity.

How to Get to Yokohama Chinatown

Getting there is easy, as it is located in the center of Yokohama city and easily accessible by public transportation. Take the Minatomirai Line to Motomachi-Chukagai Station, which is a short walk from the Chinatown area.

Whether you are a foodie, a culture lover, or just looking for a fun and colorful day trip, Yokohama Chinatown is a must-visit destination in Japan. With its vibrant atmosphere, rich history, and delicious food, it is no wonder that Yokohama Chinatown attracts millions of visitors every year.
