The Yokohama Baystars are one of Japan’s most beloved baseball teams. Founded in 1950, the team has a rich history and a loyal fan base. If you’re a baseball fan or just looking for a fun and exciting experience while in Yokohama, catching a Baystars game at Yokohama Stadium is a must-do activity. In this guide, we’ll introduce you to the team, their history, and what to expect when attending a game.

Baystars History

The Yokohama Baystars were originally founded as the Taiyo Whales in 1950. In 1993, the team was renamed the Yokohama Baystars and has been known by that name ever since. Over the years, the Baystars have had a number of successful seasons, including their first Japan Series win in 1998. The team has also produced a number of talented players, including Takuro Ishii, who won the Central League batting title in 1998, and Daisuke Miura, who was the league’s strikeout leader in 2003 and 2006.

Baystars Stadium

Yokohama Stadium, also known as Yokohama Stadium II, is the home stadium of the Yokohama Baystars. The stadium was built in 1978 and has a seating capacity of 30,000. The stadium is located in the Naka Ward of Yokohama and is easily accessible by public transportation.

What to Expect at a Baystars Game

Attending a Yokohama Baystars game is a unique and exciting experience. The atmosphere is electric, with fans cheering, chanting, and waving team flags throughout the game. Before the game begins, you’ll hear the team’s fight song, “Yokohama Baystars,” which is sung by the players and fans alike.

If you’re planning to attend a Yokohama Baystars game, here are a few tips to help you make the most of your experience:

  1. Arrive early: Arriving at the stadium early will give you plenty of time to explore and find your seat before the game begins.
  2. Bring cash: While some vendors do accept credit cards, it’s a good idea to bring cash just in case.
  3. Wear comfortable shoes: You’ll be on your feet for a good portion of the game, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes.
  4. Don’t forget your rain gear: Japan’s rainy season runs from June to July.

Food, Drinks and Merchandise at Yokohama Stadium

No trip to a baseball game is complete without enjoying some stadium food and drinks. Yokohama Stadium has a wide variety of food and beverage options, including local specialties like Yokohama-style ramen and karaage (Japanese fried chicken). You can also find classic stadium favorites like hot dogs, popcorn, and beer.

If you want to show your support for the Yokohama Baystars, there’s no shortage of merchandise available. The stadium has several shops selling official team merchandise, including jerseys, hats, and souvenirs. You can also find a variety of Baystars merchandise online.

How to Get to Yokohama Stadium

Yokohama Stadium is located just a short walk from Kannai Station on the JR Negishi Line and the Yokohama Municipal Subway Blue Line. If you’re coming from Tokyo, you can take the JR Keihin-Tohoku Line to Yokohama Station and transfer to the Negishi Line. Alternatively, you can take the Tokaido Line from Tokyo Station to Kannai Station.
